Sergio Rossi, the brand, originated in the small village of San Mauro Pascoli, in the Romagna region of Italy. Sergio inherited all the tools and traditions of a great artisan from his father: an extraordinary and intuitive ability that was never taught, but perfected as he observed all the gestures, the expertise, and tricks of the trade that would soon became natural movements. His philosophy was simple: to create beautiful shapes while providing comfort and functionality.
These shoes are made for living. Sergio Rossi regards a shoe not as a superimposed ornament, but as the continuation of the body: well adjusted, comfortable, cosmetic, and designed for the movement of a contemporary woman.
Each shoe undergoes a minimum of 120 essential steps before it is placed in a box bearing the Sergio Rossi name. Despite technological advances in manufacturing, the brand remains dedicated to the pure luxury and perfection of artisanship.
“The comfort of a shoe comes from it’s shape. I maybe made no more than ten and they are what I cherish the most. Each shape is a part of me.”
- Sergio Rossi
Sergio Rossi was drawn in and enriched by his collaborations with Gianni Versace, Dolce Gabbana and Azzedine Alaïa. With these designers he shared one and the same vision of creativity, fostered by the Mediterranean sun, and of fashion serving the look and allure of women. At the school of Dolce & Gabbana, he learned sensuality. With Versace, historical reference. With Azzedine Alaïa, the total thoroughness of construction keeping as close as possible to the female body.
At the beginning of the 1950s, Sergio Rossi went to Milan to study and train. In Milan, Sergio learned how to make the most of his passion for shapes - at the very heart of a shoemaker’s know-how - and he continued to refine his considerable knowledge. Influenced from a young age by his father, a great artisan, Sergio reproduced these skills and enhanced them, as though he had been reciting a lesson learnt by heart to craft beautiful yet comfortable shoes.
Sergio’s observations and experience, working very closely with shape, were a template for his principles of design. Never purely theoretical, this living knowledge was to come into contact with the collective work of a studio and became perfectly honed as time went by.
From an ambitious young man studying under his father, Sergio Rossi has grown his company into a globally recognized brand and has established himself as the ultimate expert in making beautiful yet comfortable and functional shoes. The Sergio Rossi network is home to around 80 retail points worldwide. Global distribution includes leading departments stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Le Bon Marchè and top concept stores such as Luisa Via Roma. The Sergio Rossi online boutique is active in over 100 countries.
